Our Mission

RHI believes that social change to overcome systemic inequities begins with empowered youth. In partnership with community adults, we nurture young people in Red Hook to be inspired, resilient, and healthy, and to envision themselves as co-creators of their lives, community and society.

Our Philosophy

At the Red Hook Initiative (RHI) we believe in young people. Our staff approach youth work with a positive perspective and undying hope. We believe that if young people feel a sense of belonging, have access to services, learn new skills, are given a chance to develop as leaders, and are provided unconditional support that they will demonstrate self efficacy, have the courage to take healthy risks, and have a positive sense of self and future. These characteristics are what will make young people resilient in the face of life's challenges so that they may continue on a path to leading a self-determined and fulfilling life.

Background Screening Requirement

In order to be a volunteer or employee with RHI , each candidate is required to have a criminal background check completed prior to beginning their service. Contact your RHI administrator with any questions.

All volunteers are required to self-pay the $6.95 cost for their background check using their personal credit card.
