About Us

The New York City Urban Debate League is the city's debate league for all schools, all students, and all grades. We are the most award winning after school academic program in New York. Every day we support debate practices after school and debate across the curriculum during school. Every week we have drop in debate centers in each borough. Every weekend we offer debate tournaments. Every month we host an all city tournament with elementary school, middle school and high school divisions. Every month we host debate workshops for all ages. Every summer and all summer long we have debate camps. All our programs are free. All our programs are year round. All our programs provide the best college, career, and civic opportunities in the city. Our mission is that every student should have the skills of a Great Debater! Membership is free! You can join at any time! Be Great! Be a Great Debater!


Background Screening Requirement


In order to be a volunteer or employee with the New York City Urban Debate League, an organization affiliated with the National Council of Nonprofits or one of their State Associations, each candidate is required to have a criminal background check completed prior to begining their service.
New York City Urban Debate League, as a nonprofit organization, typically incurs the cost of all background checks conducted on our volunteers.
If you would like to help us dedicate more of our limited funds to supporting our mission, please consider paying for your volunteer background check via your personal credit card (speak with your your New York City Urban Debate League administrator if you have any questions).
