The Komen Maryland Affiliate
The Race for the Cure began in Maryland as a 2,200 participant 5K in 1993 and has blossomed into the largest footrace in the State of Maryland. After the first Race, the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® was founded in 1993 by Nancy Brinker’s daughter-in-law. The Komen Maryland office is located in Towson, Maryland with a current staff of six. Komen Maryland’s service area includes each county in the state with the exception of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. These counties are covered by the Global Race for the Cure.
Komen Maryland relies on irreplaceable volunteers to carryout our work in Maryland. Volunteers not only organize the Race for the Cure, they also serve on various committees, plan educational events, and assist staff on special projects and in the office. Through countless hours of tireless work and dedication they are ambassadors that carry the Komen vision of a world without breast cancer into their communities.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure Maryland (KomenMD), as a nonprofit organization, typically incures the cost of all background checks conducted on our volunteers.
