About AYRA Baseball
The Atholton Youth Recreation Association (AYRA) has been providing the greater Columbia community a youth baseball program that is fun, competitive, educational, and safe for children aged five to eighteen years old since the mid 1960's. Our baseball program is based on carefully-balanced objectives. While our first, and most important, focus is to create a fun and enjoyable baseball experience for children, this objective is balanced with a program aimed at developing fundamental baseball skills. Our program is designed to develop those fundamental skills at an early age and then continually hone and add to those skills as our players age and play more competitive baseball. In addition to player development, a second focus is on developing a coaching staff that is enthusiastic, competent, caring, and prepared.
AYRA is guided by three core principles:
First, baseball is a wonderful, multi-faceted game. It's simple enough for a 4 or 5 year old to understand, but also deep enough to provide a lifetime of learning and mastering skills and strategies.
Second, we focus on winning as a process rather than as a goal. We stress to our coaches and players the importance of mastering the fundamentals, working hard, and having fun. The combination of these three things complemented with opportunities for more advanced skills training produces teams that win. Winning is just a natural result of this process.
Third, and most importantly, baseball provides lessons players will carry with them through their lives. Baseball develops players through teamwork, fairplay, mentoring, competition, athletic achievement, physical fitness, and perseverance. Our baseball players know they should be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.
These are all valuable life lessons each player carries with him or her into adulthood.
Background Screening Requirement
AYRA Baseball, as a nonprofit organization, typically incures the cost of all background checks conducted on our volunteers.
