About Us

The Alabama Moving Image Association is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging filmmaking in Alabama and building audiences for independent film. AMIA produces the nationally recognized Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, the SHOUT Gay and Lesbian Film Festival; hosts the Sidewrite Screenplay Writing Competition, and Teen Filmmaking Challenge; organizes quarterly filmmaking competitions and monthly events for filmmakers, and holds other events that create interest in and enthusiasm for independent film.

Background Screening Requirement

In order to be a volunteer or employee with Sidewalk Film Festival, an organization affiliated with the Alabama Nonprofit Association each candidate is required to have a criminal background check completed prior to begining their service.

Sidewalk Film Festival, as a nonprofit organization, typically incurs the cost of all background checks conducted on our volunteers.

If you would like to help us dedicate more of our limited funds to supporting our mission, please consider paying for your volunteer background check via your personal credit card (speak with your Sidewalk Film Festival administrator if you have any questions).

By purchasing your background check yourself, you will help us provide additional services to those in need.
